Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups quick oats (pre-cooked)
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 apple
- 1 tablespoon raisins
Recipe Directions
- 1. OPTIONAL TO SOFTEN: The night before, throw the water, raisins and then oats into your blender. Let them sit overnight.
- 2. In the morning, start your blender (and if you didn't soak the night before, throw the water, raisins and then the oats into your blender). While the water and oats are blending, chop the apple and then add it to the blender, too.
- 3. Continue blending until the oatmeal is a nice, smooth texture.
- 4. Eat! I love to top this oatmeal with more whole raisins and a sprinkle of cinnamon. This recipe makes for a very filling breakfast.
The Rawtarian's Thoughts

In the morning, my breakfast is almost always either fresh fruit, a green smoothie, or--my favourite--quick, blended oatmeal.
This recipe does take a bit of preparation because it should be soaked overnight, but, with only a few ingredients, it's so easy! (PS: You can do it without soaking but it won't be as smooth.)
Of course, like any good oatmeal, top this recipe with fruit or whatever suits your fancy!
PS: It has recently come to my attention that eating truly uncooked oats is not safe. Thus, I have modified this recipe to use quick rolled oats, which have been cooked but are way better for your digestive system. Truly raw (uncooked) oats are very tough on the digestive system and should not be eaten because of their high amount of phytic acid.

The raw oatmeal is great! I've been having it for breakfast every day for a week. They are good with/without the apple, peeled/not peeled, and definitely with extra cinnamon. They are very filling. Sometimes I eat half and store the remainder in the fridge. I bring to room temp before eating as I don't like them cold. Thanks for the recipe. I wondered how I would replace my steel cut oats!

Raw oatmeal recipe
We love this oatmeal for breakfast. This morning we used frozen mixed berries (de-thawed in the fridge overnight) (blueberries, cherries and pomegranate) it was delicious! It's a nice change, we usually do green smoothies in the morning.

I didn't try this recipe although it looks like a good one. However, you can't really call it "raw" if you use steel-cut oats. Only oat groats are raw. You can call it uncooked oatmeal, but not raw...

I'm very happy with how sweet and creamy this came out (with no nut milk!) and how satisfying it felt in my tummy. Was getting a little burned out on green smoothies, this is such a welcome change.

Sounds great but do you realize that steel cut oats are not raw at all and there is a really raw option? I have made oatmeal with living oats..just soak them overnight..and put in food processor next morning with raisins, nuts, seeds, etc....Steel cut oats are heated to keep them from spoiling on shelf.

Jaffe Brothers has sproutable oats. I buy the hulless variety..soak over night and just throw in food processor. Saw this done on Rawfully Tempting's site. The oats do sprout if you want to make sprouted oat flour for other projects but for oatmeal, just soak them overnight to germinate them. Delicious too! Love your site!

I am new to raw eating (bout 2 months now). I was sprouting oats,buckwheat and sesame for a day or two after soaking overnight, and have been eating this with berries every morning. However, now that it is cold here I don't find this satisfying. I want something warmer. So I ground raw oats in my vitamix with hemp seeds, chia seeds, dehydrated rosehips, some hazelnuts, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. I fill a small bowl with hot water and stir about 7 tsp of the mixture into it and let it sit covered for 5 minutes or so(not too long, I want it warm.) It thickens into a porridge, and tasted unusual at first, but more appealing (to me) with each mouthful. Is it still considered raw if I use hot (not boiling water?) I do not have time to prepare breakfast most days so this is something portable I can prepare ahead of time and take to work for my coffee break. I feel somehow clearer, less foggy, since I started the raw diet. Thanks for your informative site.

Re: your question re: temperature, technically the purists would say it all depends on the temperature of your water (it should be below 115), but I'd say hot water is not going to kill ya :) Go for it, sounds like an interesting mixture and that it works for you.
My attitude is that we want you to keep eating high raw for your whole life not just for a short period of time, so this sounds like it's going to be sustainable for you over the winter. So go for it!

I was wondering if instead of raisins I could mix in a little banana? I don't care for raisins.....looks yummy though :)

I put mine in pint mason jars to bring to work - and I accidentally let one ferment overnight. it was so good the next day! Had a nice nutty flavor & was even smoother & creamier. I make it without the fruit, just the oats and water.
