Found in:
Ingredients
- 1 shredded apple
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon shredded coconut
- 1 tablespoon raisins
- 1 tablespoon almonds or sunflower seeds
- 1 pinch cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon buckwheat groats (optional)
- 1/3 cup water or cashew milk
Recipe Directions
- 1. Shred your apple using a hand shredder. (If making only one or two bowls, I use a mandoline slicer with the shredder attachment. If making this for many people, probably easiest to shred in a food processor.)
- 2. Place shredded apple in bowl, and top with remaining ingredients.
- 3. Top with the cashew milk (best) or alternatively use water.
- 4. Stir vigourously. Within a couple of minutes the chia seeds and shredded coconut will absorb the liquid and you will have a delicious, ready to eat raw breakfast cereal.
The Rawtarian's Thoughts
By The RawtarianThis recipe is very similar to my raw breakfast cereal recipe; however, there are a couple of key differences - especially the addition of the coconut and the shredding of the apple.
In fact, it is the shredded apple that makes up the recipe - and gives it a stellar texture!
This recipe is for one person.

Great flavor and texture....I'm going to try it with Almond milk tomorrow morning to see if it gets creamier.
And I presume the water gets brown from the oxidation of the apples.

This morning as the kids are still asleep I decided to make this apple
breakfast instead of waking everybody up with my blender. I have been sitting
on this recipe for weeks now and I don't know why I waited so long to make
it. It took me less time to assemble it than making my smoothie. It seems too
me that it was going to take good, but at the first taste I was wowed, it
tasted way way better than I thought! I think this is a much better
alternative for breakfast when you are traveling, pack all the dry
ingredients, a shredder and I guess if you can't store milk in your hotel
room, use water or maybe coconut water or if you are not a 100% raw buy some
small 8oz almond milk containers at whole foods. Thank you very much, it was
no fuss, no mess and absolutely delicious!

So glad you liked it, Celine! Definitely a great alternative to green smoothies- especially when on the road or trying to be quiet :) I felt the same way about almond milk - why did I take so long before I tried that? My answer? because we just weren't ready yet :)

I'm new to eating raw and tried this recipe ths morning. The flavor was good but I noticed my water got brown, do I need to soak my groats before using them?

I don't soak anything before making this recipe. My water gets brown too - could be from almonds, groats/apple

Hi,
If you don't sprout your almonds and buckwheat groats, then you're missing out on most of the nutritional value. 'Raw' isn't about 'uncooked', it's about 'living'.
Both the almonds and the buckwheat contain enzyme inhibitors, which make it harder for us to digest them. Simply soaking overnight and discarding the soak water is enough to remove these inhibitors and turn them into a living superfood.
Sprout the buckwheat groats for a day or two and you're taking things to the next level.
Raw is about enzymes, enzymes, enzymes :-)
And it's easy!

Thanks for the great breakfast recipe.

Hi amy, why not give them a quick rinse right before using? Can't hurt :)

Where are the Nutrition facts, calories in the foods prepare or do you not count them in a raw diet?
The Rawtarian
Nov 02, 2012
I do not have the time to calculate calories etc for each recipe that I post online. In my experience, most raw foodists do not count calories nor do they restrict food intake in terms of portion sizes. However it is important to eat a balanced diet and lots of greens, as well as to ensure adequate protein intake and to supplement with B12 because you cannot get B12 on a purely raw vegan diet.

Awesome Dave. Sounds like you are on a roll! You might like my ranch dressing on your salads - you will love the cheesecake. And the lemon bars are a surprise hit! I was quite shocked that so many people love them - I think it's because they are so easy :)
