I eat it in my salads from time to time as well. I mostly juice it. It won't harm you.
According to Ann Wigmore, we humans can't chew it well enough to get the nutrition from it, but I've never heard of any harmful effects from eating it whole.
I have put it in my smoothies as well as my salads without problems... smile
