I would love to know this as well!
I can comment that the food from Rawvolution is very good. I have eaten there and use the cookbook often. The price of the box just went up this month to 120.00 plus shipping. I met a person who bought the box-she loved it! She kind of over ate the portions though and it did not last the full week. She also mentioned that some things seemed too salty (she was new to raw at the time). Having said that -I have eaten many items from the menu and the food never seemed too salty to me. I am planning to order the box in December. I am confident that all the food will be wonderful. Good Luck
there were a few weeks when all the food was too salty because they changed from celtic sea salt to himalayan pink salt, which is much saltier. they fixed the recipes, so everything is good now. (my brother is the head chef for rawvolution in LA. i dont know much about the NYC one)
its not really a week’s worth of food. more like 4-5 days. and they use a lot of nama shoyu and cashew a lot, if that bothers you.
I own Matt Amsden’s cookbook and though the recipes are quite good, the sodium content is, in my opinion, outrageously high. When I use his recipes, I always lower the salt or shoyu content by at least 75%. If you order from his service, you won’t be in control of the sodium. If you like your dishes very salty (and rich in oils and nuts), then all will be well. If not, you might want to hesitate. I’m not familiar with Pure Raw Cafe, so I can’t comment. $266 seems like a lot, but if you are eating in restaurants 2 or more meals per day, you’ll spend that and more.
I ordered the box and it never arrived. After some very casual attitude on their part, I finally did get a box delivered. The food was packaged very unappetizingly tasted extremely salty and “off” (spoiled) and arrived warm in mid summer. I had very high hopes after reading Matt Amsden’s book. I looked forward to my delivery with great anticipation, I wanted to become a regular customer. Instead I was met with great disappointment. I really cannot recommend it.
I found some of the items in the RAWvolution box were good and I also found a number of them too salty for my tastes. My husband liked them all okay (not as salty in his opinion).
There is another place that I have not tried, but you might be interested: www.PureRawCafe.com
Even though I wasn’t super crazy about the RAWvolution box, I liked it enough that I’d be willing to order it again. I love the idea of having Raw vegan organic food delivered. It’s such a lovely treat for yourself, don’t you think? And, it’s a great solution for the upcoming holidays. If you’re traveling and you won’t have the ability to make your own Raw vegan food, then order some and have it delivered to the place you’re going.
You can also order great organic produce for the same reason (you will be able to make food, but won’t have access or time to shop for organic). Check out www.BoxedGreens.com and www.DiamondOrganics.com. Yes, it’s more expensive taking this route, but sometimes you gotta do what ya gotta do, eh? Your health is worth it!
Cheers,
Kristen Suzanne
Rawvolution’s packaging/presentation is pretty unappealing, but the food is very good! But I will agree that it was definitely on the salty side when I last ordered a few months ago. And their customer service is indeed very “casual”, at best.
Pure Raw Cafe’s food is truly wonderful, but too expensive – only 5 meals plus a dessert. (they do breakfasts, too – I assume they are just as tasty) Granted, they are amazing meals (and their chocolate cake? Too delicious for words!)—but I wish they would spend a little less on their edible flowers, and make their meals more affordable. And their customer service is superb!
They both have their plusses, I guess it’s more a quality over quantity issue? Unfortunately, both are too crazy-expensive for regular schmoes like me to order very often. If anyone knows a more affordable option, let me know!
