Problem editing 'Recipe Categories'?

Hi! I just posted my 1st recipe, and went to edit the recipe categories, and found that my entries both past and present were displayed cumulatively… everything I have ever entered under ‘recipe categories’ is still in there even though I deleted them all on the ‘edit’ page. Thoughts/tips/magic-words-of-wisdom?
