Raw veggie burger recipe

veggie_burger_handsRaw veggie burger recipe? Wondering how can you have a raw veggie burger without meat or bread, etc?

Just get raw-creative!

First, the patty.

Raw veggie burger patties are usually made from a savory concoction of vegetables and a binding agent (like flax seed, for example). The mixture is molded into patties and  dehydrated in a dehydrator, which results in a delicious, hearty patty.

The bun? You can either make a bread or cracker by dehydrating them, or do what I do. Wrap the patty in a crisp leaf or romaine lettuce and you’re good to go.

The condiments? Try this nut-based raw mayonnaise recipe (to die for!).

In general, most raw veggie burger patty recipes start with a food processor.

Throw all your ingredients in and blend.

The recipe that I used here called for mostly carrots and some other ingredients, such as sunflower seeds, red pepper, onions, celery, and parsley.

Once blended, I mixed these with some ground flax seeds, which I ground in a coffee grinder because they are too small to blend in the food processor. Again, the flax seeds in raw veggie burger recipes act as a binding agent (keeps the food together so that it’s not just a big mess) so you really must pay attention to the flax seeds and you can’t leave them out of recipes.

Next, I dehydrated the patties.

Before I purchased my dehydrator I attempted to “dehydrate” some food in my standard oven by turning the oven on as low as it could go and leaving the door ajar for a number of hours.

I don’t recommend doing this, but it worked for me.

Above are the finished, dehydrated patties.

When preparing your patties, be mentally prepared that they will be a lot smaller after dehydration as much of the moisture is removed during the dehydration process.

Once your patties are dehydrated, you’re ready to assemble your raw veggie burger.

Use your favourite toppings. Here I have used cucumbers, tomatoes, red pepper, and raw mayonnaise.

Most introduction to raw foods books include a raw veggie burger recipe or two.
